found this today....what the heck is it????

This is made of cast iron I believe and is about half a basketball size (basketball is on side of it for size comparison). It has a threaded rod coming out the top or bottom of it (not sure which way is up with this thing). Was found in an area with other relics like an old tin pan and pot and shards of pottery.

Anyone have any ideas? It look like it would hacve been a lamp shade like tiffany style or so but obviuosly niot stained glass and it is heavy. Only half of it is here, might find the other half another time.

here are close up pics under the base. The first two are the base. The next two are other things that were found in the same area. Could the pipe thing be part of a stove....would not think a plumbing pipe would have an air damper on it, but you experts tell me.

Thanks and Yes the other is even more ornate ....nice looking piece all together....you gave it away after showing the pipe and damper....Things found with an object really help sometimes to define what it could be....good luck!
