Sorry, Cycluran. It does look like slag iron, though.

Meteorites have thumbprints - regmaglympts - caused by abrasion of air against super-hot surface of stone, which liquifies it. This looks like is has pits, and is too porous for a meteorite. Good try, though.
 

Thanks. I know you're right. Must have been a blacksmith nearby. Nothin' but woods now.
