Found this on a beach this year copper or brass nail with weird twist

seen a lot of clinched nails but they are usually just bent over flat. Seems like that had to be done while heated. It would be very difficult to get that rolled end when sticking through a timber. Just my thoughts.
My father and his father were boat builders. I helped my Dad clinch nails in his boats many times. I would "buck" the nail on the inside as he was hammering and it turned the point of the nail under, but only in a "U" shape so that the tip would turn and go back into the wood. I never, ever saw one spiral like this.

Edit: On the other hand... I just saw AU Seeker's link and must say that I have apparently not seen everything yet!

Learn something new every day....and I build boats and never new that technique !! Never needed it, we always use screws. Good call and great info guys.
