The site this came from has produced coins dating as far back as 1725 and I just recently got into an previously untouched portion that was covered by brush. There is tons of exposed pottery, porcelain and brick and among that, this rock. I know I'm likely grasping at straws with this but was this is any way something they would have used for something? It fits oddly well in hand with the thumb dimple and is very smooth except for the (lack of more informed term) rough sandstone portion.

Could be coprolite, some shark coprolite has that shape and some coprolite found in Arizona has that shape also.
