Very interesting. It does appear to be a button, and the figure on the left might be an American Indian with the figure on the right an American settler. Or it might be a man and woman dancing. Please do clean it up a bit and post more pics.

There is a letter C between them. Its soaking in HP for the night. I'll post more pictures tomorrow. Thanks

I looked through the Big Book of Buttons and saw this one "Maud Muller" that looks similar. I also found an example on ebay for a clearer image--
