A carry handle of some sort? Maybe for something awkward, sharp, or hot?

It looks like one of those handles the you would use to extend your arm while carrying a sheet of plywood

It may be the hook part of a heavy duty tie down strap like truckers use. This example is a 4" hook but I have seen them much bigger.
