Found in nova Scotia behind some houses that date mid to late 1700 and 1800, its 2 1/2 inches long, 1 1/2 inches wide and i think made of brass. i have looked everywhere but can't seem to find this type of buckle.
a great find I am sure! Interesting buckle too...could have been for a horse, buggy or something to strap stuff down on a wagon...not necessarily a belt buckle for a human.
It's hard to tell exactly how old your buckle might be, but it looks to be cast brass.
There was likely a rolled metal piece in the center for the leather belt to slide over.
It's pretty small and relatively thin in construction, so I'm thinking a buckle that someone used on their person such as on a knapsack or belt.
