Found this at my moms house

Found this at my mom's house

Took my Bounty Hunter out to my moms and this is what i found.? My friends say that it is a Cannon ball, but I dont know for sure myself and maybe you can help.

Its bout a pound in weight and bout 2 inches in diameter.

Where exactly did you find this? I have five cannon balls and all have the casting seam ground smooth, as do most that I have ever seen. Two inches is a bit small for a cannon ball as well as a bit large for grape shot. If found near a large body of water, it might be (correct me if I'm wrong shipwreck guys) a sounding gun round. Those small bore cannons mounted on posts on the bow of ships to shoot into the distance at night or in fog to see if there is land near. No echo, no land...

I found it at the bottom of a hill. in a mountainous area. In Kentucky. There was a battle here in Richmond during the Civil War and about a mile away from where the battle was said to have started at.
