Rang up like silver, and I believe it is a silver dime encased in some sort of rosin. I can see reeded edges on the coin and is the same size as a dime. It is domed shaped on the front and totally flat on the reverse. The rosin is sort of a light amber color. Crazy piece!

I have been debating with myself whether I should smash it to see what the dime is or leave it in tact just for the novelty aspect of it.

I think it's an old time paperweight.

Eye from a toy animal or some sort.

Could be, but I wonder if it is a home made replacement for one as Gene Mean suggested? I doubt a commercial one would use a coin.

Seems like you should be able to see enough to figure out what coin it is.....

Take it to your eye doctor if you have one. Might know something about what people did in old hard times.

Well, if you Google search "coin paperweight" the word "resin" pops up along with tons of pics of coins in resin. So I think it's probably a paperweight now. Not as creepy as an eye but cool.

Could well be. The interesting thing about this is, is that it is only 1 inch in diameter and 7/16 of an inch tall. I should have given those dimensions earlier, but thought the scale could be determined by the size of the encased dime. My bad on the oversight!

Smashy Smashy

Now that I see the item from a different view, I'm wondering if someone didn't put the dime in there to use it for a small paperweight ? Just a thought.

Here are a few more photographs.[/QUOTE]
