Found the most unusual Whatsit today .. Thought it was a glass eye!

Rang up like silver, and I believe it is a silver dime encased in some sort of rosin. I can see reeded edges on the coin and is the same size as a dime. It is domed shaped on the front and totally flat on the reverse. The rosin is sort of a light amber color. Crazy piece!

I have been debating with myself whether I should smash it to see what the dime is or leave it in tact just for the novelty aspect of it.

That is a unique piece. I'm somewhat split on this one. Something tells me if it were mine, I'd leave it alone, because I like to display my items as found. My obvious curious side says to crack it open !

I'd save it for years and years until the day you are too old and decrepit to metal detect anymore and you can crack it open with a walnut cracker while sitting in a rocking chair watching wheel of fortune.

After seeing those last pics I too would leave it, all those bubbles lead me to think this was done by a non professional, if im not mistaking it just takes a little heat with carbon dioxide to get the bubbles to surface when its still curing...sure is neat!!

It looks more like a homemade prosthetic eye now that you cleaned it. Is it about eyeball sized? Either that or it's a paperweight with an old coin in it? Strange cool find.
