Had one of my most favourite finds yesterday. Small Medieval keys are nice, but fairly common finds, large Medieval keys though are very rare to find. This one for me ticks all the boxes, it probably dates to around the 13th century. Although the size of the handle loop compared to the length of the key, could possibly make it late Saxon 10th/11th century. Either way though a great find. The key fell to the silver sabre plus, and the signal sounded like a dustbin lid, even at around 8 inches deep.
Robert.

I agree Colin, it may be early. The site as given me Roman, Saxon and Viking material. There was though lots of Medieval key types.

That key is awesome. Love those old keys.
