Saturday saw me back in the Sugarbeet crop again with the detecting becoming ever more difficult because of the size its getting,so l decided just to aim for the parts of the field that were thinner and also use the tractor tracks. at least l could still detect !. almost gave up as the signals were very few and far between, but stayed about 3 hours . but was well rewarded with a stunning hammered silver coin. a sixpence of Queen Elizabeth 1st. Pheon mint mark (arrow pointing down)
actually dated 1561. Hutch.

Wow! That barely made it off the boat before it was dropped! Beautiful condition! Congrats!

OH MY THATS AWESOME!!! 1561. That's amazing, wish we had that old stuff here in the states. HH

Must admit DD that we are spoiled over here for lots of remarkable coins and artifacts. detecting is a brilliant hobby. Hutch...

Can't think why this wouldn't be a banner find. Lizzie never looked so good.

A show piece for sure.
Wouldn't I love to pop that out of the ground (day dream) I'm still waiting for my first 1600's Silver.

Fantastic coin! Those hammered silvers from the middle ages really get my imagination going!

454 year old beautiful silver coin, absolutely amazing!

One of the best I have seen. Its funny how you find stuff when so restricted, I've lost count of how many times its happened to us, in a similar manner!

That's a real crisp example with a lot of the portrait remaining. Looks like it has been worth the effort tackling the tricky beet field, this great coin and your Richard II farthing from last week have definitely made the hard work worthwhile. The effort you have to put into the tricky sites makes the finds twice as rewarding.

George.
