Whites DFX
I retired a few months ago as the CFO from a local hospital and purchased a White's DFX to start a new hobby when my golf game goes bad. Spent time at parks for practice finding mostly clad ($17) as well as some other junk. Got a call from the Chairman of the Board of the hospital I worked (who knew I had a metal detector) telling me a young lady next door lost her wedding ring the day before while working the flowerbeds around the house. It was a Platinum ring from Tiffanys with a small diamond inset worth close to $1000. I drove over this evening and worked several places around the house and nearby yard but only found several nails, a penny and pulltab after about a hour. She had lost the ring after she removed it from her finger and placed it in her shirt pocket. I asked her if she had worked standing over anything and she indicated she had done so trimming back some ground cover next to the house. I scanned that spot next to the house and got a good tone indicating a ring or pull tab. I carefully used a shovel to remove about an inch of loose soil and placed in on my towel. The DFX gave me the same tone on that pile of dirt and as I brushed aside some of it... there it was. I was thrilled and so was she. She offerred me $100 reward, but the smile on her face was all the reward I needed, this was my treat. My wife was with me for the first time to watch and I think she may now be hooked on MDing as well. I love this hobby.

You've chosen a great hobby to "de-stress" and re-gain your sanity from those years as CFO.

Congrats on the good samaritan act of kindness, it will come back to you two fold.

Looking forward to your future posts...

You earned a Million Dollar Smile of appreciation that you will never forget! Good Job!

I did a similar thing once. My friend gave me newspaper advert that said a fellow had lost a ring. I rung him up and we talked and he asked me to come over to his house to look for DIFFERENT ring than he had placed the ad for!

Loong story short is I found it right where he didnt expect it to be, smack dab on the screwtop indicator on my GTP1350. It was large class ring he got from GT back in 1952.
He gave me $200 dollars, but not after he got really insulted. I didnt want the money and told him so about 5 times, but I ended up taking it because I didnt want the old guy pissed.

To tell the truth, instead of the money, I wish I could have found the ring elsewhere and not known the owner - a nice old man. I'm glad he got his ring back, but it was a beaut!

Great story, Congrats on the return. There is nothing like the smile and sometimes tears from a returned ring. Carma donations appreciated!!!!
