SO I found this today on the beach in the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick Canada.....the tide starting coming up fast. Any clue as to what type of chest this is? IMG_20150713_152805.jpg

If Geraldo shows up for the opening then you know it's a bust. Everyone gets gold crazy around here. If it was gold it would have sunk to the bottom of the ocean and stayed there. If it floated to shore then you're looking at something light like clothing or an empt discarded chest. Either way keep the lawyers away from it. Good luck.

I don't see the big deal. I've found the lids to many large boxes before. :dontknow:

I'm on my way to the Bay of Fundy right now by sheer coincidence :laughing7:. Your post in no way influenced by decision to look for treasure there. Captain Kidd said shortly before his execution, "After my death, you may find treasure I have buried in a place where two tides meet." Many have concluded this to be somewhere in the Bay of Fundy. Looks like you found one of Captain Kid's treasure boxes as from the ledgend... "Legends say that Captain Kidd buried gold contained in wooden trunks, leather bags, kegs and canvas sacks on an island which lies 4 miles off the shores of County Yarmouth in the southeastern end of the Bay of Fundy. The spot is marked by a cleft rock in which is driven sticks of lignum vitae, a very hard and heavy wood similar to ebony or teak.

the tide goes out every 12 hours...get busy!

This is exciting!!! Hope all goes well for ya and it contains something really spectacular!

That's what I thought I had found once, mine turned out to be a piece of sheet metal.
Yours looks a lot more promising! Best of luck and good fortune!

C'mon all you dreamers, if a container that size were full of gold or silver not even two men could carry it. Real treasure chests were rather small, only in the movies and TV are they huge.

Doesn't have to be gold or silver to be treasure.

I actually had a really detailed dream of this today! This is exactly what happened in my dream: I was walking along the beach on the cool wet sand when I saw the box from mandemick's image just as it looks in real life. I knelt down as the waves roared behind me and pried open the lid. The sun was shining brightly overhead and I could see inside the trunk - there was alot of sand and mud but the water from the surf slowly washed it away to reveal the contents. The trunk was not full of pirate gold, but instead old clothes from the 1920's. As I began to take the clothes out of the trunk I began to wonder how this trunk could have gotten here. Was it from a shipwreck? Or did someone simply drive to the beach way back when and forget it? Or could it have fallen off their car? As I tossed the old clothes to the side I began to notice more artifacts were in the trunk than just clothes.

Soon it was revealed that under the clothes there were WWI era guns. There were three really old and badly rusted Thompson Submachine Guns and under them were a couple of Mauser Broomhandle pistols which were wet but still looked quite intact. Getting to the bottom of the trunk now was a WWI American army uniform. I picked it out and put it down with the other clothes. Looking back inside the trunk I was stunned. At the very bottom of the trunk there was a highly compacted layer of early 20th century paper notes, at least 30 silver coins of differing denomination (but mostly silver dollars), and five or six very beautiful medals - most looked like they belonged to Russian royalty. They were made of silver and gold, many were adorned with diamonds and red gems, and they were all beautifully enameled with bright colors. The dream ended there. Later I woke up and wondered why I would have a dream in which the box wasn't just overflowing with gold... could it mean something? Maybe gold was just too simple...

Cool dream Underminer. Vivid imagination.
I had a dream last night that my car broke down and after an hour of troubleshooting I realized I was just out of gas.
When I woke up I remembered this dream and also remembered I was on E, so I remembered I needed gas.... lol.
Your dream was much better than mine.
I was thinking the same thing though, maybe its not pirate treasure, but there might be some old coins or relics in that box.
Hopefully he got it open today and decides to post some pictures for us.

Ok...
Here are some "food for thought" pics...

You may have found part of an old steamer...
OR the likes..
Steamer box lid...
etc...
BUT...
Those are DEF rivets...

Like and similar to... but not limited to these types...

So what do yall think? Did he never go back or did he go back, it was full of loot and he's keepin his mouth shut?

I would have drowned before I would have given up on digging it out! Good luck on retrieving it.

Cool story/find, I'm looking forward to finding out what's in the thing, hope it's something really cool! Wouldn't it be freaky if it had 1920's clothes and ww1 guns, and medals? YA, it would, but then we'd know who buried it! As for the pirate describing where treasure might be found, if it were me that was being hung I'd just send them on a wild goose chase, can't imagine him giving up a location for treasure under those circumstances.

I bet it was a banner find...d2
