The weather is slowly warming up. I got out for a few hours today to a place I found a few years ago. This big old tree has a heavy gauge wire bent into a hook at the end, the branch has grown around the wire. I searched the area around the tree and found this junk iron. Also found a little deer antler in the leaves. I guess I can't always find the good stuff :dontknow:
(The red arrows show the wire.)

Nice finds. Any find is a good find, be it junk or something good. Now I would say the bottle and antler would be a very good find to me. As long as you have fun detecting it is all worth.

I find allot of trees here in Southern Ohio with wire in them, most of the time it is old fence that the tree has grown around.

Actually, the antler might be useful for someone who does crafts. My brother and his wife make pens, bottle stoppers, and other craft items from a host of materials, including deer antler. Quality antler is not cheap, so when I found a large, high quality deer antler while arrowhead hunting last June, they were thrilled to have it. They said it had about $35-$50 worth of antler material for their crafts. They made me a real nice pen with a piece of the antler I had found.

Last season's efforts at Indian artifact collecting produced a George II half-penny, the deer antler for my brother and his wife - and almost zilch in the way of Indian artifacts. I guess you never know what you are going to find.

Always nice to find something. I always look for deer antlers when I am in the woods. Some of them bring nice money. It just like finding gold sometime...Matt
