Found my second GOLD coin today! But not how you'd expect...

Last Saturday it was raining pretty hard here in southern Vermont so rather than going detecting, I decided to go to the bank. It's been a long time since I've done a good coin roll hunt so I figured I'd try my luck. They only had $50 in halves, which turned out to be skunks. I decided to buy a box of nickels. Now, I almost always find foreign coins in any denomination when going through boxes, but never like the one I found Saturday. About 15 rolls into the box I hadn't found any keepers until I noticed an gold/brass color. It was the same diameter as the nickels but had raised print along its rim. I figured it was going to be a modern brass foreign coin or token. When I pulled it from the roll I was pretty shocked to see 1878 20 francs. I flipped it over and saw the Angel. Foreign gold coins are not my specialty, so l had to look it up. Turns out it's 90% gold with a total of .1867 Troy ounces of pure gold. Not a bad return on investment for a nickel. The coin is polished and scratched, so it's probably only worth it's melt value, but gold is gold :).

What a great surprise that must have been. Good for you, man!

Wow congrats to you bro! That is a fantastic find no matter how it comes your way

This is what treasure hunting is all about! Finding gold in the least expected places! :headbang: Fabulous!

Wow! That's amazing. Makes you wonder how it got there. Did someone think that it was a worthless foreign coin and used it as a slug for a nickel??

Yeah someone might have thought haha I ripped the next guy off with this dumb thing! NOPE! Congrats!!!

Thanks for the comment everyone. It was in a machine wrapped roll, so it probably was dumped into a coin machine and bypassed the internal filter.

I guess this classifies as a banner find !! :dontknow: Haha, great find I imagine it has some type of numismatic premium. :icon_scratch: Maybe slightly over scrap, the problem is selling it for above spot.

Awesome find !! :headbang:

Keep @ it and HH !! :hello2:
