FOUND MY OLDEST SILVER THIS EVENING 1675 DATE ON IT

got permission to hunt around the house site that stood by a colonial ferry crossing, pop out this nice 1675 Charles II 4 Pence, too bad its been holed though, still love it...... not took much of a story behind the find, had been hunting the beach for awhile and coming up with nothing, when my friend and i saw the landowner and asked for permission to hunt around the house since the people who were renting it had just moved out, he said it was fine so we went to it. was in the front yard of the house and had only found a couple brass pieces and a lot of melted lead when i get a good tone, and out came this beauty

Question about holed silver...

Was this done to most of the coins to keep them together on a string? Or were they done later on for necklace hardware?

they could be holed for different reasons, jewelry, sew into your clothes to prevent robbery... def some modern junk around the site, but not to bad FriscoT06, thanks again everybody

Obviously you knew that this area was for a colonial ferry crossing so it pays to do your homework. With a 1600's coins that is! Great job.

That's a great old silver. British silver from the colonial period is hard to find over here.
