When I was into coin hunting, (now it's just gold), I found golf "T"s worked great. Stick them in the ground and detect right on over them. Plus, though I don't know what the price is now, but back in the early 80s, they were about $2.00 per hundred. White plastic.If you can't leave them (like someone's yard) get a couple of decent sized washers to mark where you quit. Stick them right down on the soil and stick a nail through them to hold down so they don't dislodge if mown over. Can find real quick with detector when you return.
