Hello fellow metal heads. I've been detecting about 3 weeks and found my first ring at a local beach. So pumped! It's a 1978 High School Class ring, 10K white gold, not sure what the gem is (probably synthetic?).

I decided to track down the owner instead of being greedy. The hunt to find this person and to hear the story about it is worth more than the ring to me. I had to jump through several hoops but I think I found the lady on facebook. Sent her a message, just waiting for a reply. This hobby friggin rocks. Hooked4life.

Quick question: Anyone know the value of 10K white gold of this type of ring?

Nice finds! I cant remember what i paid for mine back in 83 but it was over 300 dont know what the value of it is as gold or resale.

Welcome to the hobby and congrats on your amazing finds! You will rack up some serious good karma points for the ring gesture! Hope you find the owner!

Happy Hunting

There are some cool apps for smartphones that can tell you what the value is for any karat. You just need put in the weight of the ring, choose the karat, and blam. $.

Hey nice find and welcome to TN. I saw your other thread about being discouraged and you got some excellent advice, not every site is going to produce for various reasons, hunted out, fill, etc. but you just have to keep researching and going a lot. We're headed out today to a place I hope will produce where there may( or may not be) some Civil War goodies.Last few times out have been a bust for us too. I hope you find the owner of the ring.

Thanks Coily! :) If you notice some thumping in your trunk, don't worry. It's just me hitchin' a ride to your civil war site. lolz GL today! Hope to see some of your finds. :) *so envious* After going out everyday the past week, I've been slowly getting a feel for my machine and getting a higher percentage of goodies. Yay! I'll definitely post a follow-up here if I do end up getting ahold of her. Cheers!

Just an update: Last night I finally tracked down the lady that owned the ring. I found her address, drove to her house and gave it to her. She was ecstatic! She had lost it twice back in 1980. She lost it at a beach, which someone then turned in to the lost and found. Then a month later, she lost it again at a different beach that I eventually found it on...32 years later. lol Hope she doesn't lose it again! Her and her husband had a metal detector too. I showed them how to work it and they gave me permission to detect their yard any time I want. Her husband even found an 1823 coin on top of the soil a few years back! Their house was built in 1890 but after digging a couple holes in the front yard, I found brick, coal, and square head nails. After research I found there used to be a house on the property before the 1890 house was built. I'm going there today to detect. Woohoo Sometimes karma has a way of paying you back. Cheers ~ Drewski

Congrats!! Karma is a wonderful thing!

You beat me to it but I was going to post that finding the owner will be the most rewarding to do!

Congratulations on the find and return - Wonderful! :occasion14:

Freakin awesome story! Ill always remember this, this hardly ever happens. Way to go man, keep it up.

Congrats! Iremember my first ring. Looked like a hub cap in my hand, heart pounding. Couldn't sleep that night. Awesome.
The first return i got was on a beach. Guy had a rental out there trying to find a wedding band.
I told him I could find it in less than five minutes, and of course he thought I was nuts.
Found it in about a minute.:)
Once retuned a ring to a lady and she told me her husband got it from a french jeweler when his company liberated France in WWII. I nearly cried....nearly.
