Found my first ever cobb yesterday. I need an idea of what it is and how old it is

Sorry, Olderdabetter. RW is right. Since you are new to the site, here is some background. RW is the real deal. He has spent entirely too much spare time studying Spanish cob coinage. (I mean that as the highest compliment, RW.) When he offers up an opinion, it is best to pull up a chair because class is in session. He is an asset to the cob collecting community.

Don't know what the coin is but the date on it is 1534. There is no 7. With all due respect to your friend I'm looking at the coin as we speak without even using my magnifier it's easy to see the date

It IS a cob (1700s Potosi 1 Real, possibly clipped), but whoever came up with that date was just guessing based on what they were seeing those digits as. Looks to be a "7 _ 4" date between the pillars... so "17_4".

NOTE: Rotate your cross side pic 90 deg. for correct alignment.

Reales watcher would you recommend me buying the Daniel sedwick cob book

thanks don i called frank sedwick the other day asked how much the hardback version is bc its limited it like $100 lol thats about how much college books are isnt it
