The front (obverse) is upside down. The reason these look so flat is because they just hammered them out knowing they were going to switch over to a screw press in a year of two. I think there was some kind of cheapness factor to their production, and they knew the new process would require twice the effort and energy to produce a 1 real coin. So they did not grind the faces of the dies and refresh the image by cutting it deeper. They just struck them until it was illegible.
