Found "mini-cache" foreign pre WWII coins

Hello,

I'm new to this site and this is my first time posting. What I have is an assortment of 32 foreign coins (4 domestic) some of which I have no idea of their origin. I have lots of pics, some not as clear as I'd like. I'll try to get better images of certain coins if required. The story is: My uncle has been dealing with antiques for years. He purchased a roll top desk that needed some work. As he was working on it he found a small green leather coin purse which contained these coins. I think he said one of the drawers had a false bottom to it. He gave them to me about 20 years ago along with a newspaper from the 1880's (not pictured) that was also found in the desk. I'd put the coins away never really examining them, and forgot about them. Last week I found this site and it reminded me of the coins. It took some searching, but I found the purse. I was amazed to see such a variety of coins, some of which are in great condition. I'll post them all, the picture resolution and sizes are massive though. The ones I'm most interested in identifying are the coins that have a lion holding a scimitar on them with asian/oriental characters on them. Thanks in advance, and happy browsing!

**UPDATE** All coins have been identified - Diamond/square with #4 still unknown.

Hey nice finds!!

The new zealand coins from New Zealand are key dates!! All coins from New zealand dated 1935 are key dates , this was a low mintage year for the whole coin spectrum of that year. Obviously the coins value wiill depend on the condition. If you are able to send me some high res pics of the coins i can give you a rough grading based on the pictures and their worth. the other coins i will see if i can find their origin.

regards Sasnz
How much is my one 1935 shilling worth? ;D
1935 there was a high number of shillings minted.

Most definitely, a find of a 1935 New Zealand Crown - 5 Shillings, will be 'a one in 1,128'

Mike

PS Sasnz
I'm picking your avatar to be an 11 lb snapper, some skinny guy and a 20 pound Kingi ;D

hey mike

Hows things?. The 1935 shilling could be worth $500 if uncirculated or $10 if well worn. Would have to have a look at yours to determinthe value. yeah the waitangi crown sure is a beautiful piece,I had one untill about 3 months ago. sold it for 7K. Good to hear from you again. I am considering looking at a couple of sites of interest in the next month or so if you are interested. let me know.

PS: you are about right on the kingi but that snapper come in just under 18lb

Joe - My best guess was that they were assembled much like yours were. Likely a service member during WWII.

Sieg - I myself wondered if the square was something for a weapon as well.

BigCy... - I'm not sure of the metal, lead sure is a possibility as it's very heavy for it's size. Unfortunately I don't have a scale, but I would estimate the weight to be equal to about 5 or 6 clad quarters.

Sasnz - I'll see if I can get some better shots of the aussies with another camera lens.

those grab bag of world coins wouldn't have had valiuble silver coins in it most likely - -the iranian coins are silver  --- I'd go with WW2 service mans coin collection .

It may be a variation of a drapery weight. Here are some examples. They do come with a #4.
