found iron object - electrolysis - before/after

I found an iron object - then did an electrolysis cleaning with a battery charger and bicarbonate soda

Thanks for the info. I have some coins and other things that I don't know what they are..I may try this, but a little nervous lol

I would not use electrolysis on coins of value ..
you are never sure of the alloy if they are supposed to be silver
and the patina will be stripped from bronze making them worthless .. IMO

some coins such as Napoleon III are bronze with other metal inside
these coins will pit when cleaned this way...

a trick I use with this method is to patina coins by using a piece of bronze on the negative and the coin to be patinated on the positive side
you need to do this slowly and in stages ... taking out cleaning, then back in the bath..

I used Photoshops "animation"
but you can probably do even better by going to an online GIF creator website
