found in pa on suesquehanna river

it got a small fossil on it > and what looked like to me have some pretty good percussion marks on it from flaking it out
prob weighs 12 to 15 pounds
thanks for all info
still learning so any tips on not bringing home paper weight would be sweet
keep hunting

just a thought but as i see these pics all lined was
thinking a cooking stone maybe

I believe its a mortar. The Native Americans used this to grind up stuff. Nice find and welcome to treasurenet:occasion14: index.jpg

I noticed this is your first posting - so, Welcome Aboard rockypast81! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forums: Select Your Area.... and selecting your state for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country).

I see no sign of it being altered by human hands. Freezing and thawing will remove chunks like that.

It could be someone noticed the fossil, popped it open looking for more and discovered it was leverite.
