I first thought this was trash and almost tossed it in the waste container at the old house but decided to wash it off first. Glad I did, this has some nice looking "tooling" on it.

I'm guessing it's off an old bridle assembly, but one thing about it has me puzzled and that is the way the "concho" portion is attached, it looks to be on upside down...

Any ideas before it goes into the "whatzit" box in the chest?

1. looks like something shot and something missed!
2. what about some kind of decorative hat banding?

3. looks alien :D
like the bumpy alien piece is protected by the knarly protector piece. sort of like a crab and its shell. rarely are they found together with the protective piece still attached as yours is.

they are known to survive on, or just under, the earths surface avoiding gardeners, farmers, builders, lawnmowers, kids, dogs, pigs, etc... surviving the elements is no easy task as well. i personally believe the alien lies in wait to be taken from the ground opting for a better future.

the protector shell when discarded by the alien, disguise themselves as unidentifiable objects. commonly in odd shapes of iron, tin, aluminum etc... when found, these are often cast-off back to the ground or at the most stuck away in the finder's basement. but! when the alien piece is unearthed alone, in identifiable shapes and in a precious metal, it is something to behold. but beware, the MD may become mesmerized. tricked by the alien piece to take on the role of the protector piece.

so, the alien piece knows what it's doing. ::) ::) :coffee2: :coffee2:

Looks to be hand formed and hand tooled. Need better photos for sure. I would say a decrative item for purse clothing or similar.

Im with Tee....dont know what it is, definately a decorator piece of some sort for a saddle maybe, but the solid round piece is suppose to be in the center of the bigger piece. The 'connector thingy" is designed to swing the solid round piece to the center, and hold it in place.
