While metal detecting on Revere Beach Tuesday July 15th @ Revere beach a friend and I were enlisted by a young teenager (approx. 13yo) to help him find a ring his mother had apparently lost.

We searched the area and my friend found a Men’s Gold Ring with a large black stone in it.

We later found out these were not the people who lost the ring, but they had seen other people looking for it and when they gave up and left the couple asked us to help them find it, knowing it was not theirs.

I did approuch these people and confronted them, but they were rude and refused to take it to the police or lifeguards to report it.

We would like to see the person who lost the ring get it back, so I am posting pictures of the people who have the ring hoping the owner will see these people at Revere Beach and can get the ring back.

Here are the pictures of the people who have the ring who are NOT the rightful owner.

If you know these people maybe you can convince them to DO THE RIGHT THING and bring the ring to the State Police Barracks in Revere then maybe the rightful owner can get it back.

No name calling intended that's for sure, just trying to make a point....

Thats good, because I'm learning why you guys act the way you do. You have some strange Laws (in my opinion, no insult intended) & a different culture & I'm learning all the time. We here in the UK are far from perfect & detecting over here generally has a bad name. Thats why I have worked hard with schools, government, Museums etc to give us a better name.

This forum is great as I can feel free to express my views & I hope everyone else can do the same. That way we can all learn a little more about each other.

Wow,

I am hearing more and more about people trying to use us nice detecting folks.

We got to watch out for ourselves, and each other.

That guy does look like a sneak and hungry dog. What a pack of dogs they are.

I think I will just detect early in the morn or late in the evening to avoid the bulk of people.

Also I will have lots of buttons on my jacket saying, "Can we talk about Jesus?" That will probably keep most people away... except, the t.v. evangelists.... ::)

I think it is just best to ask for a description of the property before looking, this way if you find something different from the description you can pocket it like any other find.

I also post my finds on craigslist in the lost and found section and return them whenever possible.

If a situation like this comes up when I am on the beach, the first thing I would ask them is..describe the ring to me.. so in the long run on this one..its a hard lesson learned.. but now ya know to ask what it looks like before you look for it or hand anything over... sorry you had to do this..

1st thing Grats on the Mens ring....Secondly Thank you for putting up those pics of Thieves.Teaching there own child to be sneaky and lie .I want to say so much more but i will just agree with everyone else's posts above.

I would not help anyone on Revere beach...sorry there is a lot of characters on that beach....

I see a few of them in this picture of demons........painting by Bosch

Easy come, easy go....a lesson learned for sure.
A few more of these and I'll fully loose my faith in people.
It's hard to remain an honest person when surrounded by so much dishonesty.
From the scum bags down on the beach, to the b@stards up in the board room, greed and the pursuit of money seems to have erased all signs of moral character. It's screw everybody and hurrah for me.
Can you tell I'm disgruntled? LOL. But I refuse to stop living life honesty! And I plan to continue performing random acts of kindness just for good measure.

Revere Beach .....Let it go now

what did they say when you went to talk to them about getting it back?
i remember that i had a similar experience at a beach my me, there was kid that was following me around when i was detecting and i actually did find a ring that time, he said that he lost the ring and tried to take it from me.

I don't know who or what to believe.
No evidence is offered only some pics and a one sided account.
I hold my condemnation for now.

I returned a cell phone once and all I got was "So I guess you have my phone" I said yes and held it out. She snatched it and didn't even say thanks. That's what the world is coming to. I'm not surprised by these guys. sounds sad but its true

This exact same thing happened to me recently at a park in the volley ball courts. I was hunting in the totlot and was approached by a man asking if I could find his ring. He directed me to the volley ball court and said he didn't remember where he was on the court but that he lost it 2 days ago. After I found it, he grabbed it from me and didn't even thank me. Several bystanders clapped. I was approached 1 hour later by a park ranger who told me that a man had lost his ring yesterday and that they all looked for it for 30 mins. I told him what happened and the wrong person got the ring, I was scammed and now the real owner will never get it back.

Lesson learned, I will ask for a description next time before I recover it and take a photo of their ID when I give it to them.

I have friends in the UK and our cultures are way different, I am "Supposed" to turn in all valuable finds at our local state beaches, I once found an item from a shipwreck and asked what is the procedure for turning in valuable finds and was told to give them to any park employee. The person at the toll house to collect the park fee did not look trustworthy to me whatsoever. I waited until I found a uniformed officer who told me that there was a procedure and that it needs to go to an archaeologist, I had to fill out paperwork. It's sad but I don't trust most people here in this part of the USA. I live in a very bad area where we have to hunt with 2 or more of us at a time for fear of being robbed and/or hurt. The friends I have in the UK are genuinely kind, hardworking and very trustworthy.

I have been detecting for over 25 years here and I have found my share of lost gold rings for friends and family. But after a few bad experiences, anything I find now is mine to keep. Also, having worked in law enforcement I know for an absolute fact that found property or confiscated property/evidence turned into the police station here is sold at auction after 18 months and the proceeds of the auction goes to the department.

Trust me Crusader, you don't want to know what people are like here where I live, just be happy that you don't have to live here in gangland.

Hi BeachBumm ,

Where in Northern California are you located???

Sounds like the San Francisco Bay area...

Thanks

Heck, put yourself in the loser of the item's shoes(or in my shoes since I'm sure not everyone feels the same way that i do about losing something). If I lose something, it is my fault and I can only hope that I'd get it back but would not expect to and sure would not expect anyone(unless they know me and know that it is mine or it is inscribed with name & ph.#)to go out their way to find me and return it. I would only hope that some good person does find it and gets some good use out of it. Finders keepers, losers weepers. I may however, try to get a "found"(I have "bought" many an inscribed item from the owner only to resell it for a profit) inscribed item back to it's owner.
If I were to find an artifact of any kind and IF I were so inclined to "turn it over", I would take said artifact to the head curator of a local museum or head of the archeology dept. at a local university and donate it. I want to trust everyone and try to give anyone the benefit of the doubt but...unfortunately you can't anymore and really never could. I do not trust "suits", the guvment, guvment agencies, or anyone in power, including police, to do the "right thing" unless I know them personally(I know several police officers and others in power that I do trust and a few that i don't). One of my best friends is my town's ex-mayor and currently running for county commissioner, he is the only pollytishen that I trust and know to be very honest & trustworthy.
It is good to know though(this site seems to be a good indication), that there are still many ethical and honest people out there.
