While metal detecting on Revere Beach Tuesday July 15th @ Revere beach a friend and I were enlisted by a young teenager (approx. 13yo) to help him find a ring his mother had apparently lost.

We searched the area and my friend found a Men’s Gold Ring with a large black stone in it.

We later found out these were not the people who lost the ring, but they had seen other people looking for it and when they gave up and left the couple asked us to help them find it, knowing it was not theirs.

I did approuch these people and confronted them, but they were rude and refused to take it to the police or lifeguards to report it.

We would like to see the person who lost the ring get it back, so I am posting pictures of the people who have the ring hoping the owner will see these people at Revere Beach and can get the ring back.

Here are the pictures of the people who have the ring who are NOT the rightful owner.

If you know these people maybe you can convince them to DO THE RIGHT THING and bring the ring to the State Police Barracks in Revere then maybe the rightful owner can get it back.

Re: Found Gold Ring @ Revere Beach

a$$holes

Unreal, what jerks they are and to have their kid help is sick.

I have heard of people asking what others have found and then claiming it was theirs but this puts a new twist on things.

Takes all kinds that is why you never show what you found. I am curious though, you said
ring his mother had apparently lost.

However you found a man's ring??

What interest me, is that if you found this with no prompting, would you hand it in?

If I detected beachs (which I don't), I would feel morally bound to hand in all that I found incase the owner was looking for it. Is this what happens normally?

HIND SIGHT IS 20/20 so next time (if this could ever happen again) when item is found don't show it to the ones requesting your help. But have them describe what they lost before handing item over. It takes all kinds am glad they don't live in my 'hood'. D.D.

No I would keep it, but if I had knowledge of who owned it I would return it.

And these people had knowledge of who owned it and used the info for personal gain at the expense of the rightful owner, my friend and I along with a minor child.

He looks like a Scum Bag and you are right what are they teaching their kid. I hope he loses that gold chain around his neck and the dog Pi$$es on his leg. I would have called the first Statey I saw and aleast make him uncomfortable if not got the ring back. I agree that I would have them describe the ring first and for the kid to say his mom lost the ring was an outright lie. They should get parents of the year award, NOT.

HH All,
Roy

I wonder what they are teaching the dog. lol

I thought you would say you would keep it, along with hundreds of others on here. Thats why I'm not interested in the beach as its very mercenary. This brings to light an interesting discussion on morality & beach hunting. How far away are your morals from his? Not picking on you specifically as I know you were trying to help someone which shows you have some character. However, I stand by my belief that rings (which have a larger personal value than monetary) should always be handed in & if no-one claims them then you will get them back in a month or two & you have tried your best. If someone claims it you should be happy & need no monetary reward. If you keep it & never try to find the owners then you need to look closer to home before throwing rocks. IMHO (& I'm sure plenty will disagree, but this is the world we live in!)

That really gets to me :angry4:, I can't believe they would get a child involved

So I invest 3 to 4 thousand dollars on metal detectors and equipment to give what I find back. That seems crazy to me. I keep everything I find and don't feel bad about it. So if you have jewelry, get it insured and at the very least have it inscribe with your telephone number. Then you would have a better chance of getting back a recently dropped item. We are treasure hunters not lost and found detectives for hire.

I saw that situation before....my friend also took picture of pple..heres what he did:

He write short story about situation describing couple as(#$#%$@%$) and added photos, and brief description of fraud all on a4 format.

Posted on all public places where u can put notes like lost cat and so.

Believe me it took hem 3 hours but those pple are now well known ..lol :icon_pirat:

If it were me I would hand the whole story, including the pictures over to the police and let them deal with it. Depending on your state's laws, and the value of the ring, this could be more than just a misdemeanor. 10 to 1 also says that this guy has a record with priors. Whatta scumbag.....

We have this saying here in Finland that "there's still plenty of room behind the sauna" for a$$holes like that. >:(

I really hope the owner gets his ring back...

I would call the newspaper, and I remember a story where someone found a diamond ring and felt he was doing the right thing and turned it into the police thinking that if no one claimed it in so many days they would get it back. Wrong, they told the guy they wait thirty days and if no one claims it they put it up in the county auction and the money goes to the county.

The guy asked will the county run an ad to see if someone comes forward to claim the property answer NO!!
He said never again..

I think this is a foolish statement to make

If a ring is identifiable such as a class ring etc. it seems like most of us on here and other forums make every attempt to get the ring back to its proper owner. And that may involve spending our own money, time and who knows what else., sometimes without even a thank you.

To me finders keepers, loser weepers, I am not out there as a beach baby sitter or spending thousands on equipment to turn in everything I find. Get real, Ladies & gents if you are stupid enough to wear a thousand dollar piece of jewelry to the beach so you can show it off or look cool, then you deserve to loose it, and I don't think its my responsibility to turn it in, unless I know absolutely who owns it...

It was unfair of me to use a newbie's honourable posting to debate this subject. So I will add; WELCOME TO TNET - the forum of many opinions.

However,
The reason I raised this was to open a debate on where the moral lines blur. It worked.

Is Treasure Hunting about getting pleasure from others misery. If you don't feel bad about it then I guess thats all that matters, right?

FloridaBill,

This is very interesting because of course I was basing my assumption on UK Law which means you would get it returned & therefore no harm done. Is this true everywhere in the US? Seems crazy to me :icon_scratch:

Sorry you think it is a foolish statement, I guess that makes me foolish. :tard:

No name calling intended that's for sure, just trying to make a point....
