Hey everyone, I dug this at a middle school on the side of a hill it appears to be a two piece gold plated button with an Eagle and Anchor on the front, the back is too rusted to get any info off from it, and could definately use some help with the ID and time frame! Hope everyone had a successful weekend of Dirt Fishing! Happy Hunting All! Enjoy the pics! The button is evenly plated all around, the dark areas on the right and left edge are caused by the shadow from the light. The entire top piece looks the same, no corrosion or rust.

Hey Dan, the button seems to have 13 stars, I think that has somthing to do with the civil war but I am not sure on that. Someone on here will be able to tell you for sure. Beautiful button though. Glad you could get out.

yeah got out to the local school for about an hour. Nothing great a cheap kids ring and some clad. But I was out. Felt good to get my hands dirty again. Some weather were having, huh? Well keep intouch. Hope you can get out again this week. Good luck if you do.

Not sure on a date, but I think it is a Marine button as US Navy usually has the anchor in the up/down position as opposed to side to side. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Correction, I was mistaken... a search on google for "us navy button" shows a design similar to yours.

Navy Coat Button...Possible CW anywhere from 1860-1910. I found one exactly like it with the rusty back. Everyone was pretty sure it dated to the CW era. Nice dig right there. Congrats..jgas Oh yea, I believe if the tops of the Eagle wings are slightly uneven that would date it to the CW era. 1860. Not an expert but that is what I have learned from others. Congrats. jgas
