The trust has what would be my wife’s great great grandfather on it. But I can’t find anything in details on the trust, I can’t find any info on the bank the cd is from or the trust. I’m very inexperienced as to where to look though

Who inherited what ? They may be the owners of everything
You may have to track the heirs a per will (s) written.

At this point we are trying to figure out where to see if these are just cool old papers or if they have been cashed out or just details in general. The heir would be my wife’s father but he is older and don’t want to trouble him with stuff if it is a dead end.

Try contacting the businesses that issued them or sold them?

That is the time period of the Great Depression so maybe they hung onto them as a memory of how things were before.

Not sure about Chicago but go to your ba nk and ask them to point you to the state agency handling trusts. California it was the comptroller if I remember right. If there's any chance of extracting taxes from a distribution they'll help.

Have you looked at the old newspapers? There might be announcements if either bank was sold. Look at Chronicling America.

Banks were hit hard in the great depression, many didn't survive and others were bought up by other banks.
Note worthy is that this piece (match book cover) being sold on EBay shows that the bank was a member of the Federal Reserve system.
So they would have records of what happened.
Name change is very possible to just the National Bank of Chicago.
