Found this today in the DC area. I'm guessing it's not too old, but I'm don't know too much about buttons (first I've found). Does anybody know approx how old it is? Marked JR GAUNT & SONS INC NEW YORK. Thanks!

(I posted this earlier in Today's Finds and was told I'd do better putting it here - I'm new!)

Nothing has changed in the 30 minutes you posted it in "Todays Finds" be nice if the price went up within 30 minutes but this isn't the twi-light zone ;) again WWI to WWII great eagle seal button. 1903-1930 type. Dime a dozen! Kewl find though! :occasion14:

Your "Great Seal" US Army button doesn't seem to have ever had the World War One era "black finish" on its brass front, so it is from sometime after that time-period. I looked up your button's backmark for you in the backmark-dating book, "American Military Button Makers; Their Backmarks & Dates" for you. It says the button-making firm of J.R. Gaunt & Son was in business from 1898 until 1968. So, your button is from sometime after WW1 to 1968.
