Okay, Mastereagle22 and I (Baldingboy) hunted an old plantation site in Southeast Missouri where a slave shack was still standing. It was very rugged terrain and extremely hard to hunt and difficult soil to pinpoint in due to lots of iron etc. I did manage to find this thing right in front of the slave house.

I will follow with pictures, but here is a crude drawing I did in MS Paint. It seems to be ornate with three tabs on the back that are burred to hang on to something. It appears to have a large monogram in the middle that says maybe MCO or just MC (or CO). Has a patent date but it is hard to recognize. This appears to be copper or possibly brass...but I don't think so. Well....check out the sketch. This is between a nickel and Quarter size I believe.

I think that it may be an end fastening for a suspenders strap.

Compare it to the details of this patent drawing issued to J. H. Murfey on May 30, 1876: one end curved, long tab at other end, shorter tabs on either side, etc. The monogram could be read as "M. Co." for the Murfey Company, and the date matches "May" and the remaining legible numerals.

Stop by the office so that we can discuss a no increase in salary promotion. Perhaps "Universal Moderator" as a title.
