Got to thinking, probably being copper or bronze, top of flag pole, guide-on, unit colors, or national colors ???

IMO...
Tis decorative in nature... and looks like bronze in pic...
If functional...
I would guess a "linstock" tip...
Shape is not Fluer di lis...
It is ranseur or corseque shape / tip.

Like from polearm.

Cleaned up, I thought about the flag pole top, which is possible, too flimsy to be a polearm or weapon, almost sure it is copper and not brass

Actually...
I am thinking... copper plated curtain "sheer" rod end now.

J/k No idea..
Could be rod spike... vane part etc.
Might be hard to peg this one...
Maybe someone round here will recognize it.

Some very old decorative fences had tops to their upright bars like that.

Yes.. It does resemble a fence / gate post finial.
But...
I have never seen a copper fence or gate... Not that there has never ever been one...
I have never personally seen one.

The things on top of a flagpole, weather it be a ball, an eagle, or whatever are known as a ''TRUCK''
although the actual truck is the pulley at the top of the flagpole used to hoist the flag.

Agree, why put copper ornaments on a steel/iron fence?

Most fence finials will be of the same metal. I'm going with a flagpole topper.
