NY beach, then southern NY? If that's the case then probably volcanic rocks. The underlying rocks for far eastern northern NJ and adjacent NY are made from old lava flows and the top one looks like an extrusive granite mix. The second, a basalt. The New Street quarries at Patterson are volcanic in nature. Lava flows. Near Staten Island some of the stuff turned metamorphic after water was introduced.
Yes sir, Staten Island. Does that also apply to these two?
The first rock feels like metal but does not stick to a industrial magnet but it does follow a magnet when on top of a small Styrofoam while it floats on water. In addition it is so damn greasy when water is applied it slips out the fingers.
The second rock is wired do to I never seen that type. I cracked a corner and it is very shinny but I need a microscope to really look in.
