Re-Posted with new pictures.

I think CRUSADER is on to something noting a HOOK of somekind. If anyone could post a picture of this it would be appreciated. Also the period you think this is from. The piece appears to be pewter.

Thanks!

Found this at the 18Th Century Mansion yesterday and need your help. The piece is 1 1/2" long and the long end appears to have been broken off. The other end also appears to have been broken off as well. Since every find on this particular project has the potential of being historically significant to the owners of the mansion, I wanted to seek the excellent help that is available here.

Thanks in advance for looking at this.

Thank you so much for your kind comments. Yes, after joining Treasurenet and seeing how dedicated everyone was in saving history and helping others, I was very much motivated in helping the mansion restoration committee with this project. I promised to return all findings to them for later display, (even the valuable ones, geez!). I also wanted to dispel any doubt that MDers were uncaring about how they would leave open holes, etc. I read somewhere on this site where one MDer found a 1900 period police button and made a wonderful presentation with it and gave it back to the family business which is still in business today. I said WOW, this is what MDing is all about and decided that that's what I wanted to do. I'm having fun with this project and I know when it's finished, I will be happy knowing that I did all I could to preserve a little part of history.

Thank you again!

Thats the right attitude & similar to how I operate. It will work in your favour in the long run.

Hello bigcypresshunter!

Yes, this sound plausible. I don't have access to the inside of the mansion but can gain access via request. I was planning to do exactly as you noted....look inside for this item and to take many many pictures of as much detail as possible as I do not have normal access to the inside.

Thanks for your information!

Thinking about it, it may not be a good idea to ask to go inside unless invited.

Re: Found this at the 18th Century Mansion yesterday - New Pictures posted 5/9

The mansion is currently locked and there would be no way for me to enter anyway. When I got involved with this project, I joined the "Friends of Perry Hall" so now I'm a member too. Pretty much any time I would want to enter the mansion, one of the directors who lives next door would gladly let me in. Actually, I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner.

Here is a link to their web site. The "clean-up" effort that carted away more than two tons of debris a few Saturdays ago was pretty much at my request to hunt. They took quick action and got it done. One day when all has been hunted, I'll post pictures in the finding area of this web site and will also post pictures of the inside of the mansion.

Thanks! --Bill--

I know the family and mansion both have links back to England so it wouldn't suprise me that you would find these in England. Like I stated earlier, I will check inside the mansion to see if any of these are in use.

Thanks for looking.

Found this at the 18th Century Mansion - New Pictures!! Possible Answer Find!!!

Found this at the mansion today. Right away I knew it was going to help me nail the identity of this piece.

The piece found today had it's end in tact, see new pictures. My first thought was a drawer "pull-knob". I brought it home cleaned it up and showed it to my wife. She thought it was a piece of Victorian hardware that would be screwed into the wall on the side of a window about half way up so that the drapery could be laid over it out of the way. Not sure what the proper term would be.

It sounded pretty plausible to me but I need to run it by you folks to see what you think.

Again, thanks for your help with this!

I have a number of those, I used to think draw pulls as well.

The stem is clearly multi use, as I have many ending in a hook instead of various decor's. I have a shell type & many others.

At least you have probably solved what came of the end of yours. :icon_sunny:
