Went to the demolition area I have been working and finally found something worth posting. Among other things I found a Missouri sales tax token. It was about 4" deep and was along the fence line where a house had recently been demolished. It rang up as a zinc penny and since I had plenty of those I almost didn't dig it. It is about the size of a nickel. The picture is not the one I found but I found a much clearer picture just like it. The one I found is starting to deteriorate and doesn't photograph well. From what I have found out, it dates back to around the WWII era or perhaps just before. I have no idea how they were used.

You remeber all the movies where they try to get all the fraction of cents that banks round off. well before computers an simplicity people wanted that money. Imagine making change in a grocery took an abacus

Re: Found a token today....and bronze buckle

Thanks for the comments but this isn't my token, just a pic of one like it. Mine is pretty worn and you can make out what it is but it doesn't photograph well enouigh to read. I also found this buckle in the same yard but thought I had lost it. It was in my carry bag! It is a solid bronze buckle, kinda' unusual. It has a us patent and from a patent search it is described as an adjustable strap and tongue buckle, invented by Albert Bliss, patented in 1949.
