I'm pretty sure that if it has a hint of copper than it is not silver. The silver proof's are 90% just like pre 1965 coinage. drop it on the table for the ring test. Compare the sound to a copper-nickle clad coin and one of your 1964 JFK's. Easily heard very distinguished sound.

Yes Sir I stand corrected. just happend to have my red book handy and they did indeed make silver clad ones outer layers of .8000 silver inner core .200 copper, for the Bicentennial. However any silver proof half dollar coins after that are back to the 90% variety. pre 1965 standards.

they had 2 bicentenial 40% silver sets that I know of. Both were 3 coin and S mint... One was proof and one uncirculated. I have both.

I just recently too found my first uncirculated 40% bicentenial. what a concidence.
