Matt had a great find today, I'll let him tell you................

Well not exactly a MDing find but anyway,I was at a park on Sunday looking for bottles and i was finding coins on the edge of the creek. So when i got home i was cleaning the money i saw somthing that looked nothing like a jefferson. I cleaned it some more and then i saw a shield!!!!. HOLY CRAP!!!I looked at the date 1881!!! It is worth $250 in G-4!!!By far the most valuable coin i'v found so far!!!! I am still shocked. But how did it get there, it was just there on the surface ,not even any dirt over it. Is there a way to get the green crud off of it???? THANKS MATT

Very nice find, Congrats

You'd be surprised what can be found, had a friend find a half cent in a elemtary school in IL where the oldest coin had been wheat cents, then suddenly the 1807 Half Cent in decent shape is dug, go figure, just enjoy the shield!!

Great eyeballing. Nice nickel. When you are collecting bottles do you mean for the deposit? Or are they old?

Very sweet. And no detector even. ;D ;D

I once had a dream that I was finding coins like that just laying on top of the grass.

Nice nickle,

Those are tough to find

Sounds like you got a great spot to return with the detector! Congrats on the Shield!!!

nice find, soak it for a few days in olive oil and rub it between your thumb and forefinger. It should clean it up nicely. How did you determine it's worth $250?

Nice Find!!! That's an incredible way to find it.

Sweet find, Matt!!

;) RR

1881 Shield 5

G-4 VG-8 F-12 VF-20 XF-40 AU-50 MS-60 MS-63 MS-64 MS-65 PF-65
$140.00 $180.00 $220.00 $275.00 $355.00 $400.00 $555.00 $720.00 $900.00 $1,145.00 $625.00

Oil it... It will ox faster in air now... Clean? Very lightly... Softly. Say, after a few days in oil... Professional Picking under a Microscope /=/ possible.

BUT WHAT A FIND!!!! More Pics! Really worth looking at....

I'd soak in olive oil with maybe a little gentle [read that as GENTLE!!!!!!!!!!] cleaning with a olive oil soaked Q-tip.
That is a sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet find!
