A iron C.S snake ! I am hoping this is a "BANNER FIND " as from what I understand these are rare to find due to the fact they are iron ... The day started with a bumpy start first place I knocked at was a 1850 house , and the owner told me that after 15 years of various people detecting no one has ever found anything other than nails ,hummmm so he said he wasnt interested in anymore detectorist hitting his yard so I thanked him for his time and moved on . I ended up hitting a old trusty spot around the corner .

When I rolled out of my truck the thermo said 96 but on that hillside it felt like 110 ... but after a nice 3 hour hunt I ended up scoring 5 .57 cal three ringers and 1 williams cleaner and a awesome SNAKE HEAD .

I hit the same place a few weeks back with the garrett at and only scored 2 c.w bullets so this time I broke out the ole XLT and man did she shine in that dirt .....

Also attached are some pics of my finds from last Saturday when me and Deadheaddigger hooked up , up his way which ended up scoring a nice pistol shot a couple of round balls ,some fired rounds, and a couple of nice flat buttons and really cool knife pommel and a silver O .... Thanks for looking !

Here is link to one idectical to mine , AC11 CS Iron Snake Buckle and there is another one on corinth civil war relics site to .. That is why I said hoping for a banner as from my understanding these are rare to find

Sorry, but selling sites & books don't always convince me.

I'm pretty sure these were not CW issue, however, as they were available pre-CW there is no reason why they couldn't have made do.

Thanks for the information on origin of the snake buckles . When I researched iron snake buckles on well known civil war relic dealer sites , the iron ones from my understanding are rare to find however the brass ones are fairly common to find . And yes many did pre date the civil war . But she is going to look good in the relic room .

...if it is indeed Iron, then, yes,it is quite RARE

I hope no-ones thinks my comments are meant to belittle this good find. I like the debate on these because I think we owe it to ourselves to prove the acedemics wrong or right. We should never blindly believe books or the internet but come to our own conclusions based on this sites massive collective knowledge. As a single team on Tnet we are a powerful factual seeking force to be reckoned with.:occasion14:

To some up, I've never found or seen one found & I do believe you have a RARE find - CONGRATS
