A friend took me to one of his spots today. The place had been hit pretty hard over the years, but it had never been hit with the XP Deus. Didn’t find a lot, but what we did find was deep (12” or more) and I managed to find this exploding bullet. That sure made my day.

This is a very informative thread for me as I was not aware of the exploding bullets.
I remember finding something years ago that was similar to this and am attaching pictures of them. I read that the exploding bullets are pewter and mine do not appear to be that. Are mine just an extension from a lead mold ? There is a 3rd unknown that appears to be pewter and was definitely fired from something. Could this be part of a Gardiner bullet ?
The 4th unknown is something that I will need help identifying. Is the attached top ring also from a lead mold ?

My best guesses are 2 pieces or william’s cleaners, maybe a blow through, and a fishing weight maybe?

I think they kinda outlawed them. the pouches would explode when hit by another bullet

They were “outlawed” during a meeting in Russia (I believe) where the us was not invited. I assume it was a precursor to the Geneva convention. My understanding is they were used on a limited basis in the cw due to:availability, reliability, and risk to the user.
