Today I turned off a side road just because I'm a curious kind of guy and like to see where a road will take me, and I happened upon an old one room schoolhouse that was used between 1910 and 1941. I called the number posted on the outside wall and got permission to detect. I first went over part of a recently scraped lot next to the school and came up the following:
1. A silver plated piece that probably went to a fork, made by the Oxford Silverplate Co., patent 1908. The ornate design reveals it is from the Narcissus collection.
2. A "whatizzit," looks to be made of thin copper. I want to say it might be the tip end of a paintbrush.
3. A 1898 Indian Head penny...back into the 1800s again.
I then moved over to the grassy area of the school yard for a short while and came up with a 191__ wheatie. The last date number appears to be missing or completely rubbed off.
Not much to brag about this time but hopefully the site will produce at least one silver coin. Lots more area to detect so there is definitely a chance for silver.
