Found a new area to look

Over the last 2 months or so, we have gotton access to some new land to look for artifacts on. My husband always helps some of our neighbors(ranchers) burn their pastures off in the Spring before they start getting cattle in, and this opens up a lot of land and landmarks you wouldn't normally see because the grass is always so high. We found a couple of really neat rock shelters(didn't do any digging). Also found a spot at the base of a big rock bluff where there were still fire rings on the ground! I wasn't sure what I was seeing was real until I noticed there were approx. 8 to 10 fire rings laid out at the base of that bluff. That was an awesome sight! I never think about seeing something like that around here---It seems more like something you would see in the Southwest desert.
We also found many, many grinding holes in rocks near the rock bluffs and I found my second mano there, under a hickory tree. One rock that had three grind holes in it, was laid across a little creek---I wonder maybe if the Indians didn't crack the acorns/hickory nuts there on that rock and leach them in the creek?
The rock shelters we found had hash marks on the walls and one had a grinding rock in the floor of the shelter with hash marks on it. Also found a creek bank with another midden in it and a creek bank on the edge of the camp that was eroding away and flint/couple of broke arrowheads had washed out. We took lots and lots of pictures and I just finished a little youtube video to share with you guys and gals. We didn't find any outstanding artifacts--just lots of flint and a few brokes, but we saw some wonderful sights! There are cattle in the pastures now and we won't be able to go back until next winter. But we have pictures to look at until then. The big bluff where the rock shelters are at is caving off really bad. All along the top of that bluff, on the ledge, there was lots of flint/debitage scattered out on the ground. Maybe those cattle will kick some artifacts loose and we'll find them next winter. Hope you guys enjoy the video and thanks for looking!

This was one of the best video I have seen on the subject!! So interesting and well put together. Looking at the fire rings and thinking of the very last human hands that touched those stones.... the thinks they worried about, the challenges that they faced...... how awesome! And I just love the music. Do you mind if I ask where you got that from? Anyway.... thank you soooooo much for the gift of this post and the video and like everyone else... Thanks Airborne ---It was almost unreal when I figured out what those rocks were....I never thought about finding fire rings. Most of the artifacts we find come from gravel bars and an occasional high spot along the creek or a creek bank erosion. Seeing something like that still on the ground where the Indians had left it was very cool.
