Found these today on the sand/gravel bar and quite a few pottery shards too. The first pic I think might be a spear point, it's flat on one side but most every type of point I'm finding is flat on one side, I'm thinking the white one with the sharp point might be a drill.

The second pic, one on the top left has part of it broken off but I find a lot of those types of points in all sizes... can someone tell me what type of point it is...also, does anyone have an ideas what point in time these were made?

I have no idea why the photo came sideways.

I know some of these are Quartz but the others...are they Rhyolite? These were found about 10 yrs ago in my father in law's garden...he had so many and the broken tools he tossed in a pile and called them his woks. The area he lived in is across the county from where I live and the Catawba river is near...he lived on top of a hill. There were corn fields on the bottom land by the river where one of the high school teachers used to go and find pipes, pottery and other artifacts. So far in my creek I've found only a couple of broken pieces of that flint/rhyolite looking stuff and hoping to eventually find something as neat as what was in his yard. All of those pieces are around 3" long except the big quartz ones they are around 2". I should've put the ruler there...sorry bout that.

His land is close to the northern mountains where mine is close to the south mountains and he was told these artifacts were from the Catawba Indians.

These are two stones I found in my creek that are the same as the ones from my father in law's area. The one on the right has an edge like it has been worked.

Oh and those black pointed rock thingies I posted last nite might not have been any tools but I'm going to use them like they are lol yeppers I got plans for them when I get ready to plant the garden 8-)

At the top of the this forum main page is a thread called "who are you" You could post there and introduce yourself if you would like.
I'm going to add a new post there now myself.

I am happy to see you post some of the same type of tools I have found here in N Ga. Not all are the same but a few are. So what period did the Catawba Indians live in that area? I havent found any pottery but just quartz artifacts no points at all just scrapers and a couple of hand tools I did find one small Cressent knife.
Thanks, rock

rock...I'm not real sure of the exact time frame they lived here but I do know they were here before the Revolutionary War...they were friends to the colonials and the Cherokee were allied with the British. I'll have to search more and find out.

Well look at these and see if you see any like yours. These are the best ones I have found. There is allot of broken pieces where I have found these at. I just keep the best ones. I dont know who or what period these are from.

Creek stain on that one but even though it has the rite shape I am going to say natural. I actually have one in my garage that is natural but it looks just like a smooth ax head. I found it in the river. When the rain raises the water and the current is strong these rocks will roll around and hit other rocks causing them to fracture into strange shapes. Then when all the softer stone is removed they will then get smooth or even get a sharp edge. If it was altered by man it wont be jagged on the sides. I will post one of my best finds by itself so you zoom on it and hopefully see the difference. Some call this a preform but is has flaking on the edges that wont show up in pictures. I believe this is a knife/ Scraper but it is a tool.

I was thinking of the pink one in the center but thought I had another one similar...these are small but all have sharp edges...maybe just rocks.

Anything here that is more than a rock? :icon_scratch:

Yes mam. You have some nice points, scrapers, gravers, and probably more tools that I couldn't recognize. Job well done! I give you 500 points! You are at the lead, I just started giving points. Lol
