Found a "Blob" of Platinum on the beach??

I just posted this in TODAYS FINDS as well, because i just found it lol, but tell me what you guys think......

Ok I was at the beach and i was up by the dunes almost, And i got a beep, when i looked down, i thought wow, thats a first, Since living in Cocoa Beach since 1983, I have never found a sharks tooth at the beach. I mean you can go down to the river, and find them all day long, i used to as a kid. but never found one at the beach, so i picked it up and was sifting the dirt where i had my beep. and i pull this odd thing out of the sand, it wasnt but maybe an inch below the sand, and i have no idea still what it is. I took it to a friend who has a jewelry store, and had it tested, and it came up as platinum. I thought ok cool, but what the hell is it! I have already done what most of you are thinking, and i have checked it over with a fine tooth comb, there are no markings, there are no letters, there are no engravings, there is nothing! Its not even a piece of jewelry that has been bent up! its just a damn blob of platinum! So any ideas what i found?!!

Hard to tell by the pics but I see no encrustation and if it was shallow near the dunes, I would have to think recently lost. Wind blown dune sand builds up very quickly and older metals tend to sink over time. We need a storm to find the older stuff. Was the beach renourished? I wish we had better pics from a camera.

We need a better pic and something for size comparison. It looks new, all mangled and bent up. It doesnt look like a melted blob. Scanned pics are terrible. :( Do they use a machine to clean the beach?

Ill tell you what i am going to work on getting you new pics tonight and tomorrow, I have a friend coming over with a camera tomorrow, so i will see what i can do its a 5mp camera, with a macro setting, so i should be good to go. but what ill do in the meantime is try some scanning tricks and see what kind of pics i can come up with, i know that these pictures do not do any justice.

oh and by the way, when she brings her camera over tomorrow, she is ironically enough bringing me my digital scale that is used for my ebay business so that i can print my own labels. lol so i wil tell you the weight tomorrow.

In the meantime, im gonna get you guy a few good pic's via the scanner at a higher resolution and with a penny next to it as a size comparison.

***NOTE*** IS THERE ANYONE IN FORUM LAND THAT MIGHT NOW SOME SCANNER TRICKS THAT I CAN USE TO TAKE A BETTER SCAN OF THIS ITEM?? ANY TECHNIQUES??? PLEASE FILL ME IN!

A 1 pixel camera with Macro is all you need. If interested, check out eBay. I bought an old Sony Mavica 1.3 MP off eBay for $10 + shipping. Takes great closeups for e-mail. Uses the old floppy discs. FD-88, FD-83, or FD-85's are inexpensive.

I am gonna have to agree b/c as high as platnium is $2069.00 AN OUNCE even though it is small if it were my damn blob of platnium and I lost it on a beach I would damn sure be out there looking for it. how mych does it weigh?

What you found is part of a Turkish Puzzel ring.
It has 4 parts that form a ring when put together correctly.
The ring looks like an overlaping figure 8 when complete.

Do you see the size of it? A little small to be a ring...

Childs ring? It does look kinda small next to the penny, but the pic is blurry and deceiving, and chicepo may be right. It may also just be part of the ring or it has been broken and/or smashed by a beach machine maybe. Here are the directions for the ring. Maybe someone became frustrated with the puzzle and chucked it or lost it out of their pocket because they couldnt wear it, while sitting near the duneline. :D

One of the failings of puzzle rings, is that the multiple shanks all lie side-by-side at the back of the ring and each shank is inevitably thin. On many of the rings made in the Middle East, these shanks are made much too thin and they soon wear out and break. The more shanks there are, the thinner they are likely to be and the more difficult of repair. Frustrated wearers often have all the shanks soldered together.

I'm like Jim; a little too small to be a ring. And a "puzzle ring" made of platinum? I'm afraid that whatever it "was" it's not that anymore. :icon_scratch:
