FOUND 1909 S VDB CENT

Was going to either play golf or metal detect today but it was just too darned cold and rainy so I decided to search a bag of cents I picked up yesterday.

About half way through the bag I found wheat side up what looked like an older one so I sat it aside until I finished the bag. After finishing the bag I looked at the ones I had sat aside and was absolutely shocked to find a 1909 S VDB cent.

I have also posted the complete story in the coin roll hunting section, but I figured since I was going to metal detect to day, and since I found this today and since my 1910 gold sovereign I found a couple of years ago with my metal detector wasn't good enough for the banner, maybe this find will make it

As an amateur coin collector in my youth, the 1909s VDB was one
of the highest rated rare pennies that I still remember. The clear lines
on the wheat stalks on the reverse highlight the great condition of this rare coin.
I have now voted for my first banner choice as a newbie here. Congrats, and thanks

Great find in the bag. I would never get that lucky in a million years! I vote banner as well...but don't ask to be banner! lol I just found a sword blade from the CW and I kinda think it's banner worthy, but others have to feel the same way. lol I don't see every day that someone finds a sword or a 1909 S VDB wheat back for that matter! Great find.

No no no! I know he didn't really ASK to be banner, just kind of a gripe that he hasn't made banner with a previous find. I see lots of banner worthy stuff in my opinion(this being one of them) but they never make it, but I also don't see them complaining that they don't make a banner in the very same post of the find. Just kinda makes it seem like all you want is your "time to shine" rather than being happy that you found something really amazing!

exactly. I wasn't asking for a banner, just commenting that a previous find that I thought was banner worthy didn't make it. Either way I am ecstatic with the find and am pretty sure I'll never find another one, but then again who knows. One of the guys from our MD club found one in a private yard last summer.

I know you weren't asking for one. I guess it was just a gripe about the previous button. I think you have a amazing find and it will be a well deserved banner.

Find of a lifetime (other than the 1922D) I got my son into coin collecting a few years ago, and we used to go to the bank and buy 2 - 50.00 boxes of pennies to search. I was heavily into error coins, and sold quite a few on Ebay. And for those who think those "Unsearched" bags or rolls for sale on Ebay are legit.... 99% have been searched, beleive me as I use to buy them all the time. Mostly 40's & 50's. Also when copper was near 4.00 a pound, I used to sell bags of Memorials that were pre-1983 which were 90% copper. nearly made 3 times face value.
Anyhow... Superb and rare find sir

that is a rare find indeed and as banner worthy as any gold coin --although any gold coin find in my veiw is also "banner worthy" as well.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments and the banner vote. I'm still super excited about this find although at least my hands have stopped shaking.

And as to the earlier question. I haven't checked last nights power ball numbers yet, but I'm pretty hopeful considering my luck this week
