When I started detecting last November, I had an idea that I would take to the hobby. I didn't realize it infects your blood.
Today was the day I found my 100th silver coin. 1950 Washington Quarter. This was my goal, and I am very happy to complete it much earlier than expected.
The anatomy of the 100 is interesting to me so I will give a break down.
1- 1802 1 Reale
2- Silver Halves ( 1 Ben Franklin, 1 Walker)
20- Silver Quarters (2 Barber, 2 Standing Liberty, 16 Washington)
74 - Silver Dimes ( 5 Barber, 42 Mercs, 27 Rosies)
3 - Silver War Nickels ( I know some people don't count these, but 40% is enough for me)

Other interesting coin finds: 21 Indian Heads, 5 Buffalo Nickels, 2 V Nickels, 1 Large Cent, and 400 or so Wheat Pennies.

I plan on slowing down the numbers and concentrating on the big fish. My new goal is to find at least 1 seated coin before the year is up.

Jon Dickinson

Thanks for the replies. I don't consider this a competition, sorry if it came across that way.
I am starting to see that metal detectorists place themselves into categories. Some water hunt for jewelry, some clad hunt, some silver hunt, some copper hunt... I respect all types of treasure hunting, and don't put any above the rest. I get the feeling that certain types of detectorists put themselves above other types, and I find this to be extremely lame. I see my long term personal preference as going for the really old stuff, but I am not sure if Cincinnati has enough really old places to make it productive. I come from an indian artifact hunting backround, and have found man-made objects that date back 10,000 years. I do know old.
LI Tom and others - I really don't get out that much. When I do, it is always a fairly short hunt(1-2 hours). My job, wife, and 2 babies make sure of it. My "trick" is that I concentrate on older homes near my house. I have had good success just talking to people about hunting their property. Around here, the parks really are beat to death.

Jon Dickinson.

Jon, you have a good plan and it's paid off for you; congratulations on a significant milestone!
