Just another Indian sex stone.......:dontknow:

Moshee just looked at your 2006 post on the crab, alls I can say there is OMG and pretty Cool. One in million find there. I'll have to pay closer attention to the rocks and stones i walk over!

Thanks BeachComber7, after looking on here I went back today might have another update soon.

Just saw the crab, Man!! thats awesome....................................HH

I found a rock that looks very similar to this picture. The one I found has one end broken off, and there is something in the middle that looks like it has an eye. Pictures:

Today I took it to Artifact ID Day at the Burke Museum; they thought it was a fossilized sea burrow, with possibly some organic material at the center.

I still think it looks like an egg!

I think the Burke guys nailed it. Cool find!

Please tell me you didn't get rid of that "egg" that's not an egg but a meteorite FOR SURE!

I can tell you this with absolute certainty that that is in fact an authentic meteorite. Look at that fusion crust! it is it actually a very beautiful meteorite! So much so that it's almost like a joke that nobody has noticed!

Absolute certainty is a bold statement without knowing where and context.
Stoney meteorites are rare. Any meteorite is rare.
The reason stoneys are even more so than metallic, it is a rock and easily dismissed.
A lot but not all verifiable stoneys came from Antarctica.
But you have your point, I too believe it is a meteorite.

There are other circumstances which can induce this crusting effect, but still I stick by what Britt82 posted.

[I just noticed this post is very old] My reply may go unnoticed.

Bone2stone
"It was a rock when found on the ground"
"Picked up and taken home made it a SPECIMEN"

Interesting development...I glad I checked back in! I'll make some inquiries at the university and get back to everyone!

I have to respectfully disagree. Yes, it resembles a stone meteorite with fusion crust. However, I have collected meteorites for 35 years, and I know that I could not possibly say, just from looking at the photos here, that it is a meteorite. There is simply no way I could make such a statement "with absolute certainty". Far too many Earth rocks can resemble what I see here. If you were to show me a well formed Sikhote-Alin iron meteorite, I might be confident in saying "that's a meteorite", but, while it is worth checking out, I cannot say this is a meteorite just from these photos alone. It cannot be done....

The perfectly smooth exterior would also be extremely unusual for a meteorite. I very much doubt that it is a meteorite. I'm not sure why anyone would identify it as a meteorite based on these photos. I've just been involved with meteoritics for too many decades to buy into such a hasty identification based on photos. Examining up close also reveals that the texture of the "crust" is not typical for fusion crust.
