I read somewhere that FF thought the chest was supposed to hold a book like a bible or something and he used it as the chest. also if you look at the attached photo of the chest its bronze outside and woodlined.

I have read a clue about the chest content , how inside are only 22 Oz gold bars . Something than nothing .

It was guessed to hold a family bible or a "book of days" whatever that is. It does look like wood on the inside but not sure, can't see any grain in it.

Have any of you hunters had a WOW! like I had the other day? I was watching a movie and a line was said and it hit me THATS IT!!! thats what the line in the poem means!!! And it FITS PERFECTLY!!!! It is without a doubt what he was saying in the poem. I was floored! I always have the poem in my mind and think of it daily.My area is big so finding the blaze may be my biggest hurdle. I could be completely wrong but the poem fits 100% with no stretch to make it fit. We will see in the spring/summer.

I must say once you can solve a few lines in the poem it gives you a bit of insight on how Forrest thinks. It seems to anyways. I will say this..... it's not some deep dark ancient code you must break, or number codes, IMHO. I know IF I can solve the rest job be damed I'm going!!!
