Forced to Leave a Hunt Site That I'm Sure Had More Silver !!..:(

How frustrating it is to find a real good hunt site and and have the police show up and kick us out! My hunting partner and myself were kicked out of a city park today after about only 10 minutes worth of hunting. My very first target just after turning on my machine was a 1920-D merc dime! I just had a good feeling about this tiny little park that I tried to hunt for the first time, I just know that we left several silvers in the ground there. The ground condition at this park was not well kept, it was mostly dirt with a few patches of weeds and grass. It was impossible to do any damage to this unkempt area. Next to where we were hunting was a large kids area sand box with swings and slides and I asked the police officer if we could hunt the sand box and he said NO! Unbelievable! What's the problem? We spent the rest of the day hunting two different areas on the other side of town and managed about $7.00 in clad and a wheat cent. At lest I went home with one silver.:)

No clue whether or not there is an ordinance in place for your park. I do have to agree about the shovel though. A small hand digging tool like a Lesche wouldn't draw nearly as much attention as a shovel. He probably would have kicked you out anyway, but who knows. Good job saving the merc from the powers that be.

I wear an orange construction vest and put two large orange traffic cones, one at the front and one at the back of my truck when I'm detecting. I've only ever had a handful of people ask me what I'm doing.
If you look like you're supposed to be there doing some sort of 'survey work' then folks tend to leave you alone.
Here's a pic of the one I wear... it also helps that I sell construction equipment for a living. :laughing7:

Congrats on the Merc buddy,
Dave

This is just too good![emoji23]

when there is a LESCHE in the picture and NO SHOVEL why tell him to use what he is using and not a shovel, several of you need to get your eyes checked just a friendly reminder !!

What a LOT of towns and cities over look ..A lot of land is gave to these cities for parks from people who want it to be for (all) the peoples enjoyment and most of the time it is worded in such away that it goes back to the family who donated if the cities try to restrict it in anway. One good way to guess if it was is by the size. Check at the court house and see if it was donated to the city. Had this happen to me already in a little town it was donated and the mayor is the one who ran us off,,it is the town park, has the city hall on it and the senior hall also and the fire department ,,The family still has kin folk who live there and would be more then happy to take it back WITH all the improvements !! Needless to say p@ssed the mayor off but we can now do it all the time now. shame there is only fresh drops tho.

Some townships have local laws not allowing metal detecting. Don't assume the boys in blue are exercising there opinion. I'm sure years before some a hole dug a bunch of holes and let trash laying about.
That is what ruins it for the rest of us

What park.....? I'll go do it......

THEY OUGHT TO THANK YOU FOR SCOURING THE AREA , WHERE I LIVE WE HAVE FOUND USED NEEDLES AND GLASS A HECK OF ALOT MORE HIDING UNDER THE DAMN MULCH THEY PUT DOWN . I BELEIVE IT TO BE A COMMUNITY SERVICE TO KEEP EVERYONE SAFE , ANYWAY NICE FINDS ...

Shovel? Are you kidding me? That black thing pointing to the hole is an arrow drawn into the pic! In my 30 years of hunting I've never used a shovel!

Damn sure looked loke a shovel at first glance. Sorry for your misfortune with the officers that responded to the complaint. I'd go back and pillage the place.
