Does it apply to everyone that works or plays near coral reefs, or who exactly?

Pretty soon now we'll all be tiptoeing around just trying not to get arrested. Jesus, this country is dead set on making someone liable for anything that goes wrong. Accidents happen. When they do, it shouldn't make a person guilty of a crime. ( hmmm... $300 a square meter). How many meters will you go in 12" of water on a coral reef at 30 miles an hour before you stop? I believe many of us know from experience. I can understand someone being held liable if he intentionally damages our reefs, but I don't think people generally run their boats aground intentionally.

Its like $1000 for damage to a square meter and its doubled, tripled and quaded if you damage more.Forget the treasure biz, lets all get together and form a biz for reef restoration and charge $999.00 per square meter to restore reefs.cruz ships, tankers, small boaters and other ships damage reefs all the time, its a never ending biz.We could name the biz "reef or madness".And the fringe benifits are we get to look for treasure on the reefs we fix.Its worth checking into. The state HAS to pay someone or some company to fix the damage.

Years ago i worked with a friend that started up a Non-Profit aquatic plant biz.he got a grant of 300k from the state to restore aquatic plants in lake monroe. We planted about 2000 eel grass stems that we harvested from lake jessup.About 3/4 of them died or got ran over by boaters.1/4 still thrives on the south side of lake monroe. The fish love that eel grass!I know my friend never even spent close to 10k on the project. He gave me 5k just for helping out.It took us 2 weeks to do what we did.The gators were watching us the whole time.

I can't believe this. After spending the day shooing off a state employee threatening to put my Aunt in a nursing home, coming back home to chill down and relax to find this. Florida never stops at the money grabs. They don't care about the freedoms and rights of others or even what is common sense.

Are they going to "fine" God everytime a Hurricane comes through ? How about all the environmental damage from those leftover mines and other munitions and military debris left in the water ?

You know Florida was beyond what is "reasonable" and "common sense" decades ago. They continue in their drunken stupor.

Reefs are all over the place out there, and who can control all ocean and weather conditions ?

How are they going to prove and enforce this by the way? Are they going to hire a team of divers to do underwater patrol ?
How are they going to prove what boat did what damage ?

This is another stupid bill. Are our legislative members that bored ? I am sure we can find them some work to do.

Next just like filing a "flight Plan" I guess you all will have to start filing a "boating plan" for the day.

DEP enforces it.DEP requires hull insurance for treasure lease sites so when you damage the reef the state collects the money from the insurance co.A damaged reef can not be repaired.Another way for them to scam money.

There will be a revolution soon.start stocking up on canned food, water, guns and ammo and gasoline and diesel. And gold and silver and diamonds.Paper money will be worthless soon. You may even want to start growing your own food and freeze drying it.Or start collecting MRE's.And im sure once it starts anyone with any authority will be a target.

psst as always --follow the money --see who benefits from this --- find out who is selling this "mandatory" required bit of "insurance" coverage --since it has to be paid to play in the treasure bussiness * I think finding out who "selling" this insurance item (thus who's going to make money off of it) and which politicain their greasing by giving money to will reveal whos in whos pocket --- think of it a required insurance --that for the most part no one will ever use --since those that might put in a claim do not want the hassle of doing so for the most part.

think of it ( govt mandated "anti reef damage" ship insurance that you must carry to be a treasure hunter * --wink wink nod nod )- to actually use the "insurance" --you would just have to turn yourself into the nearest coast guard station for "damaging a reef" and thus get your license yanked !!! oh yah like anyones going to do that.------ it would be like forcing car drivers to carry --" hit and run" car insurance on their cars --- however for them to use or "collect" on it in any way --- all they gotta do is go turn themselves into the nearest police station and say their a hit and run driverand get arrested and charged for the crime. --- bet you get a lot of "claims" filed NOT-- so the money paid in is just easy money --a forced pay off to those running the "insurance" scam. since the " reef insurance" will seldom if ever be used--they can just "pocket the cash with little to no payouts" --- sweet gig huh?

crooks r us at work.

Americans are passive and easily deceived and led. They would attack innocent souls and themselves before anything else. They have the power to impeach, but never do. Things are "out of hand" judicially and politically because Americans have not exercised their legal and constitutional rights , and too many attorneys and judges have sold their soul.

Self sufficiency is indeed key. So make wise use of that treasure you find.

And just when I decided I was staying away from political opinion or comments....just had to start something didn't you Fisheye?

Just stay underwater, and maybe when you come up, it will be all normal again here on land.

SWR stop using reason and facts to get in the way of rants of revolution and government evil.

Fisheye,
Reef or Madness kind of reminds me of an old movie.... Great idea!
SWR, do I detect a bit of self righteousness in your comments?
itmaiden, I think we think alike.
Ivan, there always seems to be that insurance company that latches on to the governments mandatory BS.
Salvor6, They government can do whatever they damn well please!

Itmaiden,

The way i see it in the very near future. One or more of us here is going to find alot of treasure and not share it with florida or the feds.We are going to blow off this popsicle stand of the USA and go to other places to live out our dreams, like these people are doing right now.

For years Florida has placed law's under rador, it's ashamed how they play games.
but that bill been around for awhile. DEP and NOAA law enforcement writes tickets all the time, on that issue.
" Sea Grass, Coral reefs, etc " don't worry about it to much. if and when , you do fined something
on a reef. just think like a Pirate. aaaarrrr

In between all of your comments,i just filled up my truck with another 100 gallons of FREE fuel(used refined cooking oil)(legally tax free too)I dont even look at fuel prices anymore.I havent bought any fuel in 2 months and have traveled well over 2000 miles.Im getting 20-24 miles per gallon right now with no problems.I now have more money to spend on my toys, boats, scuba gear and lots of time to treasure hunt.I do kinda get a rush everytime i drive by a gas station looking at all the fools(sheeple) spending money that they dont have on fuel.

I guess you will have to "scuba" passed customs.

Which brings to mind....I don't know how many on this board are aware of the new shenanigans a little while back. The government wanted to recruit all private boaters to help in the "war on terror". Yep, wanted to turn every American into private little spies and put RFID systems on all of their boats ! That way they could catch "terrorists" coming into the country...and maybe Americans going out.

SWR said: Self righteousness? No. I just have an opinion, and am vocal. Are you being judgmental because I have an opinion?

Hmmmmmmmm, I'd kind of like to know the answer to that myself. It seems to me that SWR does not let himself get to emotional about a lot of things and rather tends to sit back, take stock of the hand he's been dealt, then plays it for all that it's worth. Not the type of person you want to sit against in a poker game....lol.

It's true that most of the laws coming down the pike for a very long time now seem to pretty much suck. Big Brother is tightening his grip. The fact is though that we are responsible for allowing it to happen. There is not a law on the books that cannot be repealed or a politician that cannot be impeached or voted out of office. To accomplish this requires organization, a cool head and working within the system itself. Not only do you have to come together as a group, it is necessary to swing others over to your way of thinking.

Everyday new legislation gets passed about any number of things. This gives those law makers something to do so that they can justify their existence. The fact is that the laws already in place are for the most part more then adequate. (example: Laws to protect the reefs have been in place since the 90's that levy fines for damaging the reefs). Rather then create new laws, just enforce the ones already there. Enforce themj equally and DO NOT single out individuals or groups for selective enforcement.

There are always and always has been self-rightous, petty, bureaucrats that weld the power they have with total disregard for the effects their judgement has on others. They are on a power trip, it's as simple as that. So what's the answer, yank their power supply!!!!

You can butt heads with the system all day and in the end all you are going to have is one hell of a headace. Go after it from within itself and it crumbles.

Just one more thing. It was suggested that we get ready to move to somewhere else to get away from what is happening here. Just where would this Nirvana be? You might want to look around carefully before making such a move. I do believe that our nation is in trouble. I do not believe that running away and abandoning her is the answer. Look at it this way. If they make you run, they win.

Anyway, that's my opinion and I'm entitled to it as each one of you deserves yours no matter if it is agreed with or not.

My two cents worth, SWR has the right attitude, cool calm and collected, this new bill I think is
more designed for the inexperienced Treasure hunter who would use TNT if he could to find
Treasure. You tend to think twice if it's going to hurt the pocket!.
What I can tell most here are very experienced and would not need this insurance.
