ob, I do appreciate your knowledge of many topics and I find you to be very articulate in making your points and that is what surprises me about you sometimes. All he had to do would be to say "I direct you to fly their families here and pay them NOW" and it would have happened. He didn't!

I don't agree with your analysis of the government shutdown - but we don't have to go into that here.

I've read on the Internets rumors about Mr. Obama's "Executive Orders" - including the chain email claiming he'd issued over 900 of them. Not true. I read claims he issued some 21 "gun control" Executive Orders - again, not true.

I spent one semester at UWGB - great people up there, but just too dang cold!

Executive orders do not require congressional approval. Thus, the president can use them to set policy while avoiding public debate and opposition. Presidents have used executive orders to direct a range of activities, including establishing migratory bird refuges; putting Japanese-Americans in internment camps during World War II; discharging civilian government employees who had been disloyal, following World War II; enlarging national forests; prohibiting racial discrimination in housing; pardoning Vietnam War draft evaders; giving federal workers the right to bargain collectively; keeping the federal workplace drug free; and sending U.S. troops to Bosnia.
Back to my opinion. As Commander in Chief his FIRST and FOREMOST duty is to care for his military. IMO, he could care less!

Thank you for posting that roster. I don't agree that all of those are "gun control" measures. I'd have to re-read the list - I'm not convinced any of them are.

I just looked at the White House website going back to January 2010 and didn't see those Executive Orders were signed. At least, I didn't see them on the list. Did I miss them - or were these proposals that didn't move forward?

As for the backdrop - I'm going out on a limb here and suggesting those aren't members of the US Military.

Our government is of, by, and for the people. We are the government and the government is us - that's the way our system is constructed. When people like Ronald Reagan say "Government is the problem" they are saying the people of our nation are the problem.

Shutting down the gov't. is no big deal. It has been done quite often when both sides of the schoolyard can't agree on something. This time the gop DID NOT SAY SHUT DOWN THE GOVERNMENT. They said everything is agreeable except the healthcare law. The dems said they will not waver, they were keeping it in place so TOGETHER they shut down the government. The gop said from the start that they would not allow the US to default on its credit so, in the last minutes, they HAD to cave in to the healthcare law to prevent us from going into default that would have rocked this country. The dems were willing to jump off that cliff if they didn't get their way with healthcare. The average American still respects the service of our military and cannot condone mistreatment of them by anyone, especially a president that, with the wave of his magic Executive Order palm that he uses for gun control, could have EASILY had these fallen and their families taken care of immediately. (nobody in the gop would have that ability) I don't care if Bush used soldiers to make a point as long as he didn't poop on them! o-bama uses little children for his backdrops or uses people in his backdrop for promoting his healthcare law that aren't taking part in the program. I think o-bama should turn in his "peace" prize and resign as Commander in Chief.
No matter what corrupt, illegal, stupid etc. things have taken place in past administrations, anyone's administration, they are all dwarfed by this one's. We don't even know how to spy anymore.

First time I have heard the truth about the shut down from anyone. The Repubs put fourth a bill that funded the entire Government except BOcare, The Dems voted to shut down the Government to save BOcare. In no way the Repubs fault. But everyone believes the mainstream media lies. Just like when BO got elected and re-elected by saying, "No one is going to lose their healthcare plan!"...No one's healthcare premiums are going to go up!"..."If you like your current plan...you can keep it!" Sheeeeseh, folks can the smart people who got fooled by this just suck it up and admit it?

Sorry, not trying to hijack this thread, and thanks to all the 'Nam vets who post here on T-net for your service to a very un-grateful country!

I tell you what blows my mind is the party loyalty on both sides. Facts seem to have little to do with it. There is no doubt I am hard right, but have gotten really fed up with them all. No longer right or wrong, but left or right. I do not mean this as a shot at any individual but how can any objective human being not look at the facts from every possible angle and not see what a tyrant Obama actually is. He takes great pleasure in his opulent lifestyle and never misses the opportunity to attack Christianity and anything to do with true American Freedom. How can the President of this nation so blatantly violate his oath to uphold the Constitution and not land in prison. It has literally gotten to be a fascination to me. The violations by the NSA and IRS alone should be enough. The rampant voter fraud, Muslim Brotherhood, Benghazi, Fast and Furious, and the list goes on and on. Try as I may to see both sides it is clear that it is time to take action. I and many like me are actively working to dethrone the king. Has anyone ever even read the "African American Education Initiative". It has to be the single most racist document of modern times. It literally states that African American Students are to be given special consideration over other races. They are not to be punished the same...... well just read it. (President Obama Creates Initiative to Improve Educational Outcomes for African Americans | The White House) How is our nation standing for this. Well enough of the rant. I have sincerely tried to make this my "time away from politics" site, but just couldn't help myself. Happy hunting.

Let's just take one - "rampant voter fraud." Leaving out the numerous documented cases of Republican Party voter caging and attempts to remove thousands of eligible voters from the rolls, real vote fraud in the US of A is more rare than being hit by lightening.

AMEN and AMEN!! While I'll freely admit as a Conservative that Nixon was corrupt, that now appears mild when compared to The Obama Admin. Obama is purposely running the most divisive, biggoted, anti-Christian, anti-Israel, pro Muslim, anti US military administration that I have ever seen in my lifetime. And yes, the families of those dead military heros could have and should have been paid their death benifit and flown to meet the bodies of their family members very easily via EXECUTIVE ORDER, but Obama made the decision not to do that in order to make the shutdown look more horrible than it really was to the American people, but it backfired on him and he got caught by too many news outlets, liberal and otherwise, and the fault for purposely hurting those military families of the deceased fell squarely in that SOBs lap! A man, any man, cannot go any lower than that, using our dead military heros and their families for his own attempted political gain, in my opinion!
